Peter’s Pentecostal sermon on the Day of Pentecost gives great insights into God's Word of Promises and reinforces what everyone was seeing on that day.
Acts 2:36-39 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” [37] When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” [38] Peter replied, “REPENT and be BAPTIZED, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. AND you will RECEIVE the GIFT of the Holy Spirit. Verse 39- The PROMISE is for you and your children and FOR ALL who are far off — for ALL whom the Lord our God will CALL.”
Verse 38 says again“...be baptized [in water]...AND you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
This Confirms Acts 1:5 that water baptism and Holy Spirit baptism are TWO DISTINCT Baptisms.
Again in Acts verse 38- “...you will RECEIVE the GIFT of the Holy Spirit.”
Again in Acts 1:4, the Baptism is a “GIFT.” Recieved by Faith - Also again in Acts 1:4, it is to be “RECEIVED.” Don’t fear or hold back, but in faith receive this blessing from God.
Verse 39 “The PROMISE is for YOU...and FOR ALL who are far off — for ALL whom the Lord our God will call.”
As in Acts 1:4, the baptism with the Holy Ghost is a sure, trustworthy promise of God.
It is one thing to be born of the Spirit. It is an entirely other experience to be filled with, and to be baptized with, the Holy Spirit.
Reading in Acts 2:4.... And something dramatic and powerful happens. They begin to “speak in other TONGUES.” The evidence of speaking in tongues occurs in Acts 10:44-46, in Acts 19:1-6, and in the apostle Paul’s life (I Corinthians 14:18). It was the same experience that happen to the first 120 believers at Pentecost's outpouring ... notice Acts 2:1-4 then Acts 11:15-17).
Acts 2:4 “as the SPIRIT FILLED THEM AND ENDURED (ENABLED) them” — the baptism with the Holy Ghost took them into the realm of the supernatural God, and into the realm where the Holy Ghost moves through a person with His power. |
